Thinking of starting golf? Start the right way.
No confusion, no wasted money. A simple guide for first-time golfers in India, with an expert on call to answer your questions.
Golf is easier to start than you think
You do not need to be fit, young or rich. Follow these 4 steps.
Try a lesson
Book 3 to 5 lessons with a coach at a driving range. Learn grip, stance and swing basics first.
Get a starter set
Do not buy a full pro set. A half or starter set is enough for the first 6 months.
Practice at the range
Hit 50 balls, 2 or 3 times a week. Regular practice beats long practice.
Play your first round
Start with a 9-hole or par-3 course. Enjoy it, scores come later.
Your starter checklist
Buy in this order and you'll be ready for the range in no time.
Get a complete starter set
A full set (driver, irons, putter and a bag) is the easiest way to start — no need to buy clubs one by one.
💡 Choose by height and hand (left/right). Graphite shafts are lighter and easier to swing.

Pick durable golf balls
Beginners lose a few balls every round. Start with tough, distance-focused balls instead of expensive tour balls.
💡 Practice balls are perfect for the driving range.
Shop all Golf Balls (37) →Add a golf glove
A glove on your lead hand (left hand for right-handed golfers) gives grip and prevents blisters.
💡 It should fit snug — no loose material at the fingertips.
Shop all Golf Gloves (30) →Wear proper golf shoes
Golf shoes keep your feet stable through the swing. Spikeless shoes work on both the course and the range.
💡 Waterproof shoes help with morning dew and monsoon rounds.
Shop all Golf Shoes (11) →Dress for the course
Most courses expect a collared polo and golf trousers or shorts. Breathable, stretch fabric keeps you comfortable.

Practise at home
A putting mat or swing trainer helps you improve between rounds.

Start with the basics. Add more as your game grows.
Beginner Club Set
Driver, a wood or hybrid, a few irons, wedge and putter. Forgiving clubs help you hit straighter.
Golf Bag
Stand bag for walking, cart bag for carts. Light and with enough pockets.
Golf Balls
Soft, low-compression balls are best for beginners. Buy a dozen, you will lose some.
Glove and Shoes
A glove improves grip. Golf shoes keep your feet steady while swinging.
Tees and Extras
Tees, towel, ball marker and divot tool. Small items, big help.
Pre-owned Clubs
Graded used clubs (Like New, Good, Fair) are a smart way to start on a smaller budget.
Budget tip: Not sure about golf yet? Begin with a used or starter set. Upgrade after 6 months when you know your swing and style. (Add your budget packages here, e.g. Starter Pack ₹ XX,XXX)
5 beginner mistakes to avoid
- Buying a very expensive pro set first. You will not feel the difference yet.
- Skipping lessons. Bad habits are hard to fix later.
- Wrong club length or flex. Ask an expert before buying.
- Buying from unknown sellers. Fake clubs and balls are common online.
- Expecting a great score quickly. Enjoy learning, scores come with time.
